Just finished this fascinating book and I think I will be reading more by this author soon.
There’s a lot I didn’t understand but what I think I understood was that just as the transition from feudal/agrarian to industrialist/capitalist society created new logics and social relations that had never existed before and were not contained in what preceded it, so the emergence of urban society from within the matrix of capitalist society has created yet new logics and social relations that were not contained either in what preceded its emergence.
I think the main point that the author is trying to make in this book is that the urban phenomenon is something truly novel and that classical Marxism oriented only to the capitalist/industrialist society that was emerging in Marx’s time is not equipped to analyze it.
Like I said though, there was a lot I didn’t understand.
